Eight months of the year, Red Bull and NOMOBO are waiting for the perfect wind to hit Zandvoort.
Once it arrives, the extreme kitesurfing event is produced within two days.
The most extreme kiteboard event: When the perfect storm hits the Netherlands, with winds over 35 knots, 16 of the world’s best kiteboarders will be challenged to show their biggest megaloops.
The kiteboarders jump up to 15 meters high and cover distances up to 50 meters in winds of 50 knots at the Red Bull Megaloop in Zandvoort, Netherlands. In 2017 and 2019, NOMOBO's live broadcast carried this breathtaking event to even greater heights.
This unique competition relies on the extreme Dutch weather. So, for a seven-month period between April and November, NOMOBO and the event organizers are on constant standby. Should the big winds not arrive, the show is canceled – just like it was in 2018.
In June 2019, the conditions finally were perfect. An initial forecast arrived on a Monday. By Wednesday, the event had been confirmed. On Saturday, more than 10,000 spectators flocked to the beaches to witness world-class athletes show off their skills in extreme, yet ideal, weather conditions.
With only two days notice, NOMOBO produced a stunning live broadcast as 16 of the world's most talented kiters unleashed their skills on the Dutch coast.
